The f-350 manages to mix innovation, comfort, and style into a competitive vehicle that has impressive torque ratings, towing capacities, and payloads. The f-350 is available as a 4x2 or a 4x4, has three different cab configurations, and has three trims available. The rugged and reliable xl, the well equipped xlt, and the luxurious lariat. Two engine choices include a standard 6. 2-liter 385-hp triton v8 with 405 lb.-ft. Of torque or the optional and innovative 6. 7-liter turbo 400-hp v8 powerstroke diesel with 800 lb.-ft. Both engines are mated to a new torqshift six-speed automatic transmission with selectshift and a tow/haul mode. 2008 ford f-350 super duty review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New, more refined and more capable. introductionthe 2008 ford super duty pickups feature new styling inside and out along with a re-engineered suspension that delivers a smoother ride. A new diesel engine and a new f-450 pickup are designed to handle the needs of ever-increasing agricultural, boat, and rv trailer weights. Other revisions and refinements are designed to address customer comment and stricter emissions standards. two words can define the 2008 super duty relative to the previous iteration: refined and more. With realistic expectations, any faults will seem minute when compared to the ability to plow a big parking lot, carry a small car or tow a small house. the 2008 super duty is not an all-new truck. Some body panels, engines and transmissions continue. But many aspects more substantial than the front-end styling have changed. It has a new interior in five different flavors from hose-out to leather lux, a new diesel engine, more added features, and should cost less based on equipment than the outgoing model. and in a first for any major pickup manufacturer ford has added a medium-duty pickup, the f-450, to the line. The super duty line can haul from one ton to three. It can tow from three tons to more than twelve. It can carry three to six real-world people with room to spare. And the door pockets, glovebox, and console will hold more stuff than some sports cars' trunks. Almost every permutation is built. Exceptions: the king ranch version is offered only on crew cabs, the f-450 is long-bed crew cab only, and the fx4 trim is not offered on 2wd, any f-450, or with a regular cab. a 5. 4-liter v8 with 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque is standard on all models up to the f-350 crew cab drw, which has the 362-hp, 457 lb-ft 6. 8-liter v10 standard. Both the v10 and 6. 4-liter diesel (350 hp, 650 lb-ft) are optional across the f-250/f-350 spectrum, but the diesel is the only engine offered on f-450. A six-speed manual is standard, a five-speed automatic available. the base xl is commercial in nature, with vinyl seats and flooring, black painted grille and bumpers, plain trim, am/fm stereo, and a weight-appropriate receiver hitch. Options include mechanical upgrades (engine, limited-slip differential, larger tires, traction control, camper package, off-road package for 4wd, tow command, etc.), air conditioning, auxiliary switches, reverse sensors, and a tailgate step. xlt trim adds chrome trim and wheels, 40/20/40 cloth front seat, carpet, ac, cd player, power windows/locks/mirrors, tilt wheel and cruise control. Options include aluminum wheels, captain's chairs w/power and heat, audiophile sound system, adjustable pedals, sport trim package, moonroof, and rear-seat dvd entertainment. the fx4 off-road model adds 18-inch wheels and lt275/70r18 all-terrain tires, standard limited-slip, skid plates, fog lamps, security system, overhead console, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Options include 20-inch wheels, navigation/audiophile system, sirius radio, and power telescope/fold heated dual-element towing mirrors. lariat trim (n/a on regular cabs) adds polished wheels, leather power seats, dual-zone climate control, trip computer, redundant sound/climate controls on wheel, woodgrain trim, illuminated visor mirrors, privacy glass and a sliding rear window. Dimensions are easily given in yards rather than inches. The color of the side vent gives away if it is gasoline or diesel-powered. given its fender flares and dark snout, the fx4 is the most aggressive trim style, though no super duty would be mistaken for anything less than a full-size pickup even with nothing scalable within sight. New towing mirrors include signal repeaters that won't distract the driver; they telescope and fold (manual or powered), and include two large reflective elements for safe rear vision with the widest street-legal trailers. an optional tailgate step pops a 16. 7 x 4. 5-inch step with a half-ton load rating out of the tailgate and raises a grab handle rated at 300 pounds to make the climb safer. It also includes an assist so the very heavy tailgate feels less heavy. The handle makes bed access easier but may need to be lowered again to slide a load in, and removing the gate, as is often the case with some trailers, may become a two-person chore. interiorwith three-and-a-half feet of headroom and just shy of six feet of shoulder room, the ford super duty cab is massive. Materials are job appropriate: no carpet mats for commercial or trail duty, and appear well assembled. The king ranch version brings a little lincoln to a pickup while the base model could be cleaned out with a bucket of warm water. On upper-end models, the gear-cog-like chrome surrounds for vents and gauges can create some unwelcome reflections, and the number of textures and colors (we counted up to eight) may be too much for design minimalists. the interior has been restyled for 2008. The dash is now segmented in three smaller parts for a more manageable look. The center stack houses a pair of large vents, radio and navigation top center where easily viewed, climate control, and most switchgear. Side steps are available. We noted a marked reduction in wind/cab noise around the center pillar in the supercab, and the better sealing means that big front door requires a solid yank to close with all windows up. The short shifter for the automatic is less effort but more precise than before. The headlights can be turned off for good neighborly night-time entries to campgrounds or drive-ins. the ventilation system is capable of cooling or heating the cavernous volume and keeping forward windows and mirrors clear, and seat heaters are very effective; a supplemental cab heater is available for diesel models. the navigation system is fairly intuitive and will be familiar to ford family drivers. ford's tow command integrated trailer brake system is easy to set up and provides better, smoother trailer braking control than any aftermarket controller.

New engines, more models. introductionsmooth and quiet, the ford f-150 is comfortable on bumpy streets around town, over rugged terrain at construction sites, around farms and over utility roads, and on the open highway. Its steering is nicely weighted and requires little correction on the highway making it nice for long cross-country tows. All are highly capable trucks, even those loaded with luxury features. The f-150 was completely redesigned for 2009. For 2011, the f-150 received a new engine lineup and electric-assist steering on all but 6. 2-powered crew cabs. For 2012, the lariat limited model is no longer offered, but one of the nine f-150 versions should be close enough. a new fx appearance package is for 2012 f-150 fx2 and fx4 models that includes 20-inch wheels and lots of flat-black trim inside and out. All 2012 f-150 4wd models can now be flat-towed behind another vehicle, like a motorhome or larger construction truck. Yet even the least-expensive f-150 isn't boring; it leaves room for customization, does the work required, and keeps overhead down. with one of the deepest beds in the segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,060 pounds; most versions carry 1,550-2,100 pounds. Any cab model f-150 can be optioned to tow more than 11,000 pounds; the range varies from 5,500-11,300 pounds. (the ford super duty line of heavy-duty pickups is covered in a separate new car test drive review.) two v8 and two v6 engines are offered, all with 6-speed automatic transmissions. Standard on 2wd is a 302-hp 3. 7-liter v6. Other choices include a 360-hp 5-liter v8, the only engine offered on every cab/bed combination, a 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8 on supercrew short beds, and a 365-hp twin-turbo 3. 5-liter v6 on all but regular cab short beds. So it has to stay competitive: the standard v6 is more powerful than any other pickup v6 and the same horsepower as chevy's 1. 1-liter-larger v8; the 6. 2 offered in crew cabs and raptor is more powerful than any half-ton pickup engine; it's the only pickup that comes with a 6-speed automatic in every model. Supercab trucks add higher fx and lariat trim to choices plus svt's raptor, and a short-bed option (about 5. 5 feet). A long-bed supercab is available only with the heavy-duty package. The supercrew f-150, available with either the short bed or standard bed, drops the stx grade and adds king ranch and platinum derivatives while harley-davidson is supercrew short bed only. the f-150 xl 22,990) is a standard bed, regular cab two-wheel drive. It comes with 3. 7-liter v6, 17-inch steel wheels, black bumper/grille/mirrors, and vinyl upholstery and floor covering. This is typically about $1,700 and required to get the maximum payload rating about 1,000 pounds heavier than standard f-150. Options are essentially limited to engines, a locking differential, alternative axle ratios, 20-inch wheels, sony sound and navigation systems, moonroof, chrome tube running boards and remote start. f-150 platinum supercrew 44,235) gets a unique satin chrome grille, body-color bumpers and wheel lip moldings, 20-inch wheels, power-deploy/retract running boards, satin chrome tailgate trim, tuxedo-stitched leather power captain's chairs, wood grain and brushed aluminum trim, rain-sensing wipers, power folding/heated mirrors, and unique console. It comes only with the 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8. Unique long-travel high-performance suspension, wheels and tires, and aggressive bodywork set it apart from any other f-150. A front camera is offered for seeing close-in obstacles or drops obscured by the hood. the f-150 option list is comprehensive and, although simplified in recent years, can still resemble the tax code to the uninitiated; there are, for example, many option codes for running boards and trailer towing mirrors. Most options are dependent on the model and other options, and many features are standard on more expensive models or go that way with engine upgrades. In addition, prices of options often vary by trim level. all prices listed above are just a starting point for the trim level. In many cases these upgrades add more standard equipment and/or a larger engine.
